CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — The Cabarrus County Courthouse will close Monday because of two positive cases of COVID-19.

Officials said a court employee and a magistrate’s office employee tested positive and closing on Monday allows for contact tracing and rescheduling cases.

Courthouse officials believe more than a dozen employees might have to quarantine and there could be a staffing shortage until Oct. 9.

Officials said to minimize case disruptions, district court hearings will shift to virtual platforms when possible. Superior Court cases that are scheduled after Sept. 28 will not be affected.

According to a statement, no other court or Magistrate’s Office employees are showing COVID-19 symptoms. The Cabarrus County Health Department is working to notify those who may have come into contact with the virus.
