Sheriff's deputies have kept this home surrounded for almost 24 hours after a man inside pointed a rifle at them.
At one point, shots were fired during the standoff, deputies said.
Deputies said when they got to the home they were greeted by a man pointing a rifle at them through a window.
They said this isn't the first time they've had to react quickly when responding to the home.
Channel 9 cameras could see deputies Monday morning try to figure out how to get Malcolm Andrews to give himself up.
His uncle said he took an ax to his mailbox and demanded his pickup truck. When he refused, he barricaded himself inside by nailing all the doors shut.
“Do you think he would hurt somebody?” Channel 9 asked his uncle.
“Yes, I believe he would,” said JP Andrews.
A Blue Ridge Electric Crew had shown up to cut power to the home.
Deputies said they arrived Sunday night and backed away after Andrews pointed a rifle at them through a window.
"They had a time trying to tell if he fired on them, but they knew when they saw the gun they were already in cover and they were just trying to maneuver around to get a shot off,” said Caldwell County Sheriff Alan Jones.
This isn't the first time Andrews has had trouble with the law.
Four years ago, he was accused of ramming a deputy’s patrol car with a stolen pickup truck. He later pleaded guilty to felony assault with a deadly weapon on a government official and two counts of hit and run.
The sheriff said because of the danger he poses to law enforcement his deputies weren't taking any chances.
His uncle could only watch and hope no one got hurt.
"He said, ‘I’m going to get an ax and I'm going to get your guns in case the law comes out here.’ I reckon he's going to use it," said JP Andrews.
Jones told Channel 9 his deputies are equipped with body cameras. They did have them on Sunday night and do have a recording of what happened outside that home.
They plan on reviewing that video soon.
