CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — Channel 9 has new details of an unsolved double homicide in Catawba County when the parents of a 10-year-old girl were found shot to death inside their home.
Reporter Dave Faherty went through search warrants that explain how the killer got inside and a key piece of evidence found in the victims' yard.
He spoke with family members at the scene of the cold case homicide Wednesday, and they said they don't understand why someone would want to kill Mark Wilson and Diedra Ramseu.
Deputies found the couple shot to death next to their bed at their home north of Claremont, according to the search warrant.
They found a shotgun in the bedroom and a loaded handgun under the mattress they believe belonged to the couple. They also recovered a round from the bedroom wall.
Channel 9 learned the phone discovered in the yard Tuesday belonged to the couple and may have been dropped by the killer while trying to get away.
Sheriff Coy Reid says the couple's daughter was not home when someone killed her parents.
Family members said a vigil is planned for 7 p.m. Thursday at Southside Park in Newton.
Deputies said they are trying to narrow the time of death and determine if the motive was possibly robbery.
A family member said the last time he talked to his brother, Mark Wilson, was Saturday night.
