CHARLOTTE, N.C. — CMPD is investigating a series of package thefts from porches.
There were five reports of packages being stolen off of porches, according to police reports gathered by Channel 9 on Friday.
On Wednesday, police said a man stole a package of vegan food off a porch on Youngblood Street in South End.
"I'm just glad it wasn't anything expensive. It was just a package of meals for the week," said resident John, who did not want his last name to be used.
A neighbor's security camera captured the theft in progress.
"He wasn't running. Just acted like it was his package he was picking up for a buddy and took off, almost like a pro," neighbor Ryan Sapel said. "For someone in broad daylight, walk up, steal a package, and get in a car and take off it is a little different."
Video showed the suspect getting away in a Jeep SUV.
In addition to the theft in South End, police took reports of four other package thefts.
In Dilworth on Atherton Street, police said someone stole a package Thursday of baby clothes and books.
In Elizabeth on Clarice Avenue on Tuesday or Wednesday, police said someone stole a package of TOMS shoes.
In Coulwood on Level Creek Lane on Wednesday, police said a delivery of purses was snatched .
In north Charlotte on Thursday on Newgard Court, police said a package of kitchen organizers was taken off the porch.
A resident in north Charlotte told Channel 9 he saw the thief in action. The resident ran outside and told him to put the package back.
He said the thief hesitated, then got in the SUV and sped off.
Similar to the theft in South End, he said the suspect was in a Jeep SUV.
Police said no arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Police suggest requiring a signature for package delivery or having them delivered to a neighbor's house if you are not going to be home.
The Post Office, FedEx and UPS offer options to prevent this from happening.
Residents can ask that packages delivered to a different location or give special instructions such as leaving them at the back door.
