CHARLOTTE — Charlotte city leaders are voting Monday on a rule change that explicitly prohibits drivers from blocking sidewalks with vehicles for any reason.
The proposed measure comes after city officials identified issues with vehicles parked in driveways extending onto public walkways.
City leaders stated that sidewalk obstructions caused by parked cars create violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The rule change clarifies that vehicle drivers cannot block any portion of a sidewalk under any circumstances, including when parked in private driveways.
