CHARLOTTE, N.C. — For the people who still enjoy walking into a library and checking out a book, there is good news -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Libraries are moving into “Phase Two” Wednesday.
This means that you can finally step into a library to browse books and use the computers.

Things may look a little different inside your library branch. Libraries have made changes to accommodate social distancing. In addition, masks are still required.
Customers can still reserve books online and pick them up at your local library branch, like during Phase One. Phase Two just gives you the ability to actually go inside and take advantage of all the library offers.
While some people are excited to get back, the library director told us they have thought of ways to make sure books don’t get contaminated.
“The biggest thing is when library items are returned we are quarantining them prior to check in, which means any lingering traces of the virus will die off and not be a true risk by the time staff checks them in and they go back on the shelf,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library Director Caitlin Moen said.
Each library has a limit on how many customers can be inside at once. There are plans to expand services in the coming weeks, including in-person programing.
