CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte made the No. 1 spot for Time Magazine's Best-Value Big City list.
The magazine ranked cities with a population of more than 500,000 people.
The Plaza-Midwood and Mountain Island Lake neighborhoods were highlighted in the report.
It said Plaza-Midwood features new businesses and that even during the economic downturn, the area held its value well.
The report also touted Mountain Island Lake as family-friendly, with spacious homes for a low price.
Cary, North Carolina was also on the list at No. 19.
Chapel Hill made the No. 36 spot.
