Charlotte tax preparer pleads guilty in scheme to file bogus tax returns

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Channel 9 was inside the courtroom on Thursday as Quandella Walker pleaded guilty to her involvement in a scheme that involved falsifying records for tax clients to get bigger refunds.

Channel 9 has covered Walker's case since she was indicted in February.

Walker pleaded guilty to one county of aiding in the filing of a false tax return and one county of identity theft.

These two charges are part of a plea deal Walker made with the government and are a small fraction of what she originally faced.

Out of 15 cases from 2012 to 2014, where she was accused of profiting from a scheme that brought in more than $600,000, Walker pleaded guilty to one case and costing the government more than $119,000.

For the second charge, Walker pleaded guilty to stealing a victim's Social Security number and racking up more than $6,000 on a fraudulent store credit card.

Walker left court with her face covered with a shirt and refused to comment on her guilty plea.

Walker's attorney said we'll hear more from her when she faces a judge to learn her fate.

Walker faces a maximum of 15 years in prison. She is waiting on a date for her sentencing.
