Charlotte treatment center finds success using ‘telemedicine’ approach during pandemic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — According to a new study, the coronavirus pandemic could lead to more overdose deaths due to a decrease in access to health care resources. But some experts say it may also offer some new, long-term solutions to the opioid epidemic.

More clinics are using telemedicine to treat people who are struggling with addiction during the pandemic, including the McLeod Center in Charlotte. To help reduce contact at its clinics, many clients now receive a two-week or three-week supply of medication, and counseling sessions have moved online.
