Charlottetown Terrace reopens after $13 million face-lift

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An affordable housing complex in Midtown reopened Tuesday after a $13 million upgrade.

Residents tell us they believe its money well spent.

The Charlottetown Terrace on Baxter Street, which houses 160 families, has new plumbing, hallways, and electrical systems.

The Terrace also has a library, a gym and its own hair salon.

The construction costs were covered by multiple sources. Officials said $6 million came from federal grants and stimulus money, $6 million came from the CHA's budget and $1 million came from the city of Charlotte.

The Charlotte Housing Authority is also in the process of upgrading the Strawn Apartments on South Boulevard. Residents there will start be relocated by the end of the year.
