ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A China Grove fire truck was struck early Wednesday morning while working to clear a deadly pedestrian crash on Interstate 85 North.

The impacts of the crashes are still being felt hours later.

Around 11:30 Tuesday night, officials say a pedestrian was hit and killed on I-85 in Rowan County.

When crews from the China Grove Fire Department responded to the crash, a driver hit their truck around 3:30 a.m. in the right lane north of Highway 152.

One person in the car that hit the fire truck was taken to the hospital, conscious and alert. They are expected to be ok.

The right lane remained blocked through the morning as investigators worked to collect evidence and determine the cause of both crashes.

The road fully reopened around 5:45 a.m.
