SHELBY, N.C. — A fire ripped through a church on Sunday morning, collapsing the roof and canceling Sunday services.
The fire broke out around 8 a.m. at Dover Baptist Church on Polkville Road in Shelby.
Church officials took to social media and said, “No services today. Pray for our church. Our building is currently on fire.”
“Praying for those affected by this fire,” Congressman Tim Moore wrote on Facebook. “Thank you to Shelby Fire & Rescue Department and our first responders for all they do to protect our communities.”
Shelby Fire & Rescue responded to the massive fire as flames tore through the roof and the front sanctuary of the church.
The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
