From Chopper 9 SkyZoom, emergency crews could be seen surrounding a retention pond.

Workers told Channel 9 they spotted tire tracks leading to the pond and called 911.

The company said landscapers working nearby noticed what appeared to be a vehicle submerged in the pond behind their storage warehouse.

"It was just a big black spot in the water that we know wasn't there yesterday," witness Rick Wilkerson said.

They had obvious concerns that this may be an accident or worse.

"Wanted to find out whether there was anybody in there,” witness Randy Evans said.

Chopper 9 saw two divers enter the water.

The car was eventually fished out of the pond after two hours, with scores of emergency officials on standby just in case.

"We have quite a bit of manpower to show up on the scene, because not knowing who may be in the car or the circumstances around the vehicle,” Charlotte Fire Battalion Chief Kelvin Brim said.

Channel 9 is asking whether the car was stolen.
