CONCORD, N.C. — A sign outside a church in Concord showing Panthers Pride is getting attention from Carolina Panthers fans all over.
Reporter Elsa Gillis spoke to the mystery sign lady about her inspiration and the reaction it's getting.
Deah Calloway said she's surprised by all the attention she and the sign at Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church have gotten.
“God has no favorites, but the sign lady does ... Go Panthers!" her first sign read.
Calloway is the church's office administrator and a Panthers fan. She is the sign lady, but said the sign's recent messages have been a team effort.
"When the Panthers were doing so well this season, we started saying, ‘When they go to the playoffs this year, we're really going to have to find something to say on the sign.' That sort of draws the community in," Calloway said.
It has drawn in more than just the local community. Calloway said the picture has gotten thousands of likes on Facebook.
"It was on Facebook and then this person likes it, and then that person likes it and before you know it, 6,000 people have liked your sign," Calloway said.
Between the playoff win and the success of the first sign, she said it was time for another one. On Monday morning she changed it to "God loves a cheerful giver, so sign lady says give the Cardinals heck!"
"While I was changing it, there [were] people going down the street and honking the horn, going 'Sign lady!'" she said.
After the Panthers victory in the NFC Championship, the sign read, "Taste and see God is good. Sign lady says Broncos will taste defeat."
Ahead of Super Bowl Sunday, the sign read: "God is a burning fire, sign lady says light the Broncos up!"
Calloway showed her disappointment when the Panthers lost the Super Bowl with this message: "God dries tears. Sign lady needs tissues but says keep pounding."
