City of Charlotte approves $50K to crack down on speeding

CHARLOTTE — The City of Charlotte is getting tens of thousands of dollars to help crack down on speeders.

North Carolina is providing the city with tens of thousands of dollars to help crack down on the speedsters.

The Charlotte City Council voted, 7-1, to spend $50,000 on five new radar guns and a seat belt convincer, a simulator that demonstrates the importance of wearing a seat belt even on low-speed rides.

Channel 9 has reported on the problems with speeding in Charlotte in the past. Running red lights, speeding, and weaving through traffic have caused issues throughout the years.

“We absolutely feel it,” Mark Ezzell, the director of the North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program told Ch. 9 in November. “And we absolutely see it. In fact when I speak with my colleagues nationally, in other states they’re seeing it.”
