City to invest $8M toward UNCC hotel project

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte City Council unanimously approved a major development along the Blue Line extension.

UNC-Charlotte wants to build a new hotel with taxpayers picking up $8 million of the cost.

City council members later approved the $8 million to go towards the project.

Channel 9 told you about the plans for the new Marriott Hotel next to the JW Clay Station in June.

The new hotel will have 226 rooms and a 24,000 square foot conference center.

UNC's Chancellor said it will help the school recruit major conferences.

The total project is expected to cost $84 million.
