Carlee, who was master of ceremonies at the news conference  said Google Fiber will be "huge" for Charlotte.

"It is very exciting. We've worked very hard," Carlee said. "Our staff has really drilled down to show Google how they can come to Charlotte as easily as they can come to any city, and they already know that it's a market. We are very excited about today's announcement."

"We're talking about a whole new utility coming to Charlotte and building a whole new utility system. That is huge," he said.

"That is a ton of work in our right of way going into our communities and so how do you do that? How do you do it well?," Carlee said. "That's what our staff has been doing to show Google that we are a city where you can really do business."
