CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have arrested and charged two suspects involved in an armed robbery of a T-Mobile store in southeast Charlotte.
Police arrested 17-year-old Matao Kenly and 16-year-old Marquis Smith for their alleged involvement in the case.
Officers said they responded to an armed robbery of a T-Mobile store on East Independence Boulevard on Sept. 28.
Officials said while Kenly and Smith were inside the store, the pair forced two employees to the back of store using weapons and took cell phones and other items from the store before leaving the scene in a car.
Investigators said they received information that the pair were sitting in a vehicle on Somersworth Drive during their initial investigation.
Officials said Kenly and Smith matched the description investigators received and officers located stolen merchandise belonging to T-Mobile in their possession.
Kenly and Smith were each charged with two counts of second degree kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.
The pair are in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
