CMPD: 20-year-old woman robbed in SouthPark Mall parking deck

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are searching for a suspect who allegedly robbed a woman in a SouthPark Mall parking deck last week.

The victim, a 20-year-old woman, said that a man approached her from behind on Oct. 6 just before 7 p.m. and demanded money from her purse.

The woman said she gave him the cash that she had, and the suspect then ran away.

According to the police report, the woman was not harmed during the crime.

The management at SouthPark Mall released a statement on the incident:

"SouthPark is committed to providing a safe, quality-shopping environment. Our management, security and retailers take any reports of misconduct seriously and we maintain a close working relationship with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

SouthPark Mall management and security work proactively to ensure the safety of our shopping environment. We have a robust security program in place, which includes some visible components as well as others that must remain behind-the-scenes to protect the integrity of the programs. This includes a 24-hour active patrol of the center lots, use of CCTV, use of Segways and escorts to vehicles upon request."
