CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School district said a new academic internship program went better than expected.
Nearly 20 students we recognized on Thursday for their hard work.
For the past five weeks, the students worked with the building department to assess the conditions of schools and what needs to be fixed.
CMS’ facilities director Dennis Lacaria said the students went above and beyond what was expected.
“It’s been outstanding. They went through the list of schools we provided them initially, and we were able to give them additional schools to do, which was really surprising to us as well,” he said.
CMS said the program helped them deal with budget cuts.
Right now, there are only three property managers to look after all of the district’s buildings.
