CMS school honors those who passed away during pandemic

CHARLOTTE — One Charlotte-Mecklenburg school is honoring loved ones who have passed away from COVID-19 as well as cancer.

Students released balloons outside of Wilson STEM Academy Friday in memory of their parents, cousins, grandparents, aunts and uncles they lost during the pandemic.

“We go through so much because of it,” seventh-grader Ra’Niyah Benson said. “We all come here with a smile. We are trying to make sure everything is good but we really hurting inside.”
