CMS teacher arrested for indecent liberties with student

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Mallard Creek High School teacher has been arrested for indecent liberties with a student.

Anthony Gonzalez, 25, was arrested Friday afternoon.

Sources told Channel 9 the incident happened on campus with a 16-year-old student.

Gonzalez teaches band at Mallard Creek.

He’s being held on a $5,000 bond.

Channel 9 is contacting Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools to see if they have taken any action against Gonzalez.

School officials sent this statement to Mallard Creek High School parents and family members:

"When an incident occurs involving the safety and well-being of our students, I feel it important to let you know the facts in order to inform you and to avoid miscommunication."

"Anthony Gonzalez, a Mallard Creek Band instructor, has been charged  with one count of Felony Taking Indecent Liberties with a Student by a Teacher by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Mr. Gonzalez was arrested this afternoon by CMPD."

"I want you to know that I take matters such as this seriously and will assist law enforcement in anyway necessary in this active investigation.  The parents of the student involved have been contacted and is also assisting law enforcement in this case."

"The safety, security and well-being of students is a top priority and the Mallard Creek High School community remains vigilant in our protection of your children.".
