CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It was chaos for more than 200 people on board Amtrak train 188, which derailed Tuesday night in Philadelphia.
Jeremy Wladis, the co-founder of Fuel Pizza in Charlotte, was sitting in the last car on his way to New York when he felt several bumps and shaking.
"You started to hear people screaming. You started to feel it shaking. You heard metal crunching, you smelled rubber. People (were) screaming," he said.
Wladis spoke about scary moments as passengers and their belongings flew out of their seats.
"Laptops going flying, phones flying in the air, you know, shoes, glasses, purses and even two people got (thrown) into the luggage rack above my head," Wladis said.
Wladis said he and many others were able to walk out of the train unhurt.
Seven people died and more than 200 people were injured.
