Clarification: Contracted cafeteria workers at local college paid on time

SALISBURY, N.C. — Channel 9 has a clarification to a story we published Monday.

Employees for Perkins Management Services Company, which runs the cafe at Livingstone College in Salisbury, had claimed they were having issues with their pay.

Channel 9 learned the company switched payroll processors, which led to an adjustment in pay periods and pay days. A spokesperson said employees were notified of the change, and no employee was paid late.

Perkins Management Services Company released the following statement:

“Perkins Management Services Company has been a business partner of Livingstone College for approximately eight years. We recently changed payroll processors which required alignment of pay periods and pay days for all employees. In early November 2019, all managers affected by the realignment were notified that the pay periods would be aligned and that the pay day would be changed from Monday to Friday. As a result, affected units would receive pay for one-week during the transition as they would have already been paid for one week of the new pay period. The management at Livingstone College posted notice in mid-November. As a result of the pay day change, a reminder was sent last week to employees that the pay day was changed from December 30, 2019 to January 3, 2020. The employees last pay date was on December 20, 2019.”
