Commercial kitchen lands new investor, bigger location in west Charlotte (MELISSA KEY/CBJ)

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A commercial kitchen that launched in Charlotte seven years ago is gaining momentum with a new investor and flagship location.

Charlotte-based Red Hill Ventures and The City Kitch, founded by Carrie Hegnauer — a former senior culinary instructor at Johnson & Wales University — this week debuted the kitchen’s second area location in west Charlotte. The City Kitch received its temporary certificate of occupancy at 2200 Thrift Road on Tuesday.

Hegnauer started The City Kitch in 2013 after she struggled to find commercial kitchen space to lease to teach culinary classes during the summer. She first rented space in the Lake Norman area, before moving to the University City area and, now, expanding into an even larger facility.
