CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A church community is mourning the loss of a prominent pastor who has preached across the world.
Rev. Myles Munroe died in a plane crash in the Bahamas on Sunday.
Channel 9 talked to a local pastor who planned to welcome Munroe to his congregation in just two weeks.
"It's a great loss to all those who were followers of Dr. Munroe," Rev. Stacy Lemay said.
Lemay said it just doesn't seem real that one of his biggest spiritual role models is gone.
"We were just recently communicating with him and with high expectations of having him here in Charlotte," she said.
Munroe, a 60-year-old pastor and motivational speaker, was set to join Lemay at his church Champion Kingdom Center on Nations Ford Road in two weeks for a leadership summit.
Munroe's plane went down near Grand Bahamas International Airport killing him and all eight others onboard.
"He will be remembered as a man who was compassionate, who was passionate about his purpose," Lemay said.
Lemay said he's hosted Munroe at his church two previous times.
During his career, Munroe traveled to more than 100 countries and wrote dozens of books.
He spoke about leadership, family structure, spiritual balance and principles.
"He affected and impacted millions of people," Lamey said. "I would almost say billions of people over his duration of teaching throughout the world."
Now as Lemay and his wife move forward with their ministry they plan to carry out Munroe's teachings for years to come.
"We have a responsibility now to carry on the legacy that Dr. Munroe began," Lamey said.
Munroe's wife Ruth also died in that crash. She was part of his whole entourage with Bahamas Faith Ministries International Fellowship that was on the plane with him.
