Community demands answers almost a month after deadly officer-involved shooting

CHARLOTTE — A community took to the streets to demand answers Saturday, nearly one month after an officer with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department shot and killed Curtis Massey.

Police say the officer shot Massey after he pulled out a gun and perceived him as an imminent threat.

The shooting happened at a gas station near I-77 and Lasalle Street.

A lot of the people who marched believed that Massey was shot in the back following a confrontation with the police. Protestors are calling for transparency. They want CMPD to release the body camera footage immediately showing the incident.

Protestors marched from the gas station, up Lasalle Street, down Beatties Ford Road to CMPD’s Metro Division office.

The racist text message scandal was on the minds of everyone.

CMPD has petitioned a judge to release the body camera footage in this case. Normally that takes time.

There is no word on how long the process in this case will take.
