CONCORD, N.C. — A bridge on Lincoln Street reopened Wednesday after being closed since July 2022.

The Irish Buffalo Creek bridge underwent inspection in 2022 and was deemed unsafe for vehicles.

Construction began in May 2024. The bridge was completed ahead of schedule, with the original plan anticipating a full year of construction.

In August 2023, a house fire on Lincoln Street killed three children. Some Cabarrus County residents raised concerns to Channel 9 in 2023 about the bridge closure’s possible impact on EMS response time.

A spokesperson for the city of Concord told Channel 9 that the response time was not impacted by the bridge closure.
