MORGANTON, N.C. — Construction of a new mental hospital in Morganton began Wednesday.
Gov. Bev Perdue joined Broughton Hospital leaders for the groundbreaking.
Crews tore down several buildings last year to make room for the new 382-bed facility.
Broughton is one of just three psychiatric hospitals in the state. It is expected to be completes in 2014 and fully operational by mid-2015.
