Cornelius police officer dies after off-duty medical emergency

CORNELIUS, N.C. — The Cornelius Police Department announced the off-duty death of one of its officers.

Officer Joshua Murray died Wednesday morning after a medical emergency while he was off work, according to posts on the department’s social media pages.

Murray had been with the department since April 2019.

He was assigned to the field operations division where he worked with the lake patrol unit. He also served on CPD’s mobile field force team.

“Officer Murray, you were a faithful and dedicated member of our department and your loss will leave an impact on our agency,” the department said in a Facebook post. “May you rest in eternal peace. We have the watch from here.”
