3 seriously hurt, 10 others with minor injuries after CATS bus rear-ended

CHARLOTTE — Three people were seriously hurt after a city bus was rear-ended Sunday afternoon, MEDIC said.

It happened around 1 p.m. in east Charlotte on The Plaza near Cove Creek Drive. The intersection isn’t far from Milton Road.

Investigators said the crash was caused by a truck that rear-ended a Charlotte Area Transit System bus.

According to paramedics, one person was treated for life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. Two other people were seriously hurt. In addition, 10 other people were evaluated at scene for minor injuries, MEDIC said.

Ten of those hurt in the crash were on board the bus, the city confirmed.

The Plaza was closed in both directions while crews worked to clear the crash. It reopened in one direction around 2:30 p.m.

It’s not clear what led up to the crash or if anyone will be charged.
