Crescent Communities making progress on massive River District project in west Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — Crescent Communities is making significant progress on The River District, its massive mixed-use development in west Charlotte. With construction milestones being hit, the developer will formally commemorate the project with a groundbreaking ceremony next week.

Crescent has delivered “major utility and roadway infrastructure,” at Westrow, the first element of The River District that includes a range of residential and commercial uses. The developer ramped up construction efforts at The River District over a year ago, but is now moving closer to activating the initial elements of the project. Crescent will be joined by city and state leaders at the groundbreaking, which will be held March 29.

The River District is being planned to include 8 million square feet of commercial space upon full buildout, in addition to about 5,000 homes and apartments, hotels and retirement units. A significant amount of green space will be maintained at the more than 1,400-acre development along the Catawba River.
