Crews break ground on revamp of downtown Concord

CONCORD, N.C. — Concord is making improvements to its downtown with a new project.

Crews officially broke ground on the new Downtown Streetscape Wednesday. The project will include more landscaping, sidewalks and parking in hopes of bringing outdoor cafes, stores and more visitors.

Concord Mayor Bill Dusch said the city’s downtown is in the middle of a renaissance.

“It’s the heart of the city and it’s important this is being expanded and updated to match that,” he said.

The project is set to be completed in a year and a half.
