DA to seek death penalty in Caldwell Co. murder case

LENOIR, N.C. — A Lenoir man charged with murder in his girlfriend's death may face the death penalty.

Caldwell County's district attorney announced he'll seek capital punishment for Michael Whisnant.

Whisnant was accidentally freed from jail last week. He's back in jail.

Investigators say they found Tammy Lynn Benge's body in his home in April.
