CHARLOTTE — A Charlotte-based parking company is telling thousands of its customers it was part of a data breach that exposed credit and debit card information, our partners at The Charlotte Observer reported.
Preferred Parking says more than 72,000 people were affected, including 61,000 in North Carolina.
The company says scammers accessed its database on June 7 and 8.
Preferred Parking says it has since strengthened its network security.

- Keep a close eye on your bank accounts.
- Ask the credit reporting agencies for your credit report periodically. After all, you’re entitled to free ones.
- Sign up for free credit monitoring if a company that was breached offers it.
- Freeze your credit. That’s probably your best defense against identity theft in general.
