Deputies identify 87-year-old man killed, daughter injured in Rowan Co.

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A Rowan County woman is in intensive care after she was apparently attacked and her elderly father killed.

Eyewitness News spoke with a family member Wednesday. Jeff Steen said he went to his mother's house to help with home repairs early Wednesday. He said he found his grandfather dead and his mother hurt.

"'Help.' That's all she could say was 'help,'" said Steen.

He said his 62-year old mother, Sandra Steen, was beaten and almost unrecognizable. He found her lying in her yard. His said his grandfather J.D. Furr was also lying in the yard apparently dead from his injuries.

"He was 87 years old, a good Christian man," Steen said.

Deputies combed through evidence for several hours. They said the two were last seen by family members Tuesday around 7:30 p.m. Steen said he was there around that time helping with house work. Channel 9 asked deputies if they had suspects or if family members may have been involved.
