Officials: Body of missing Avery Co. woman found

AVERY COUNTY, N.C. — Avery County sheriff's deputies said they found the body of a woman who disappeared from Linville.

Deputies said Dorothy Barber left her home Saturday morning and was supposedly traveling to King, North Carolina but never arrived.

Barber's body was found Wednesday in Ashe County near her car. No foul play is suspected, police said.

The Avery County Sheriff told Channel 9 that her phone was last pinged near the Blue Ridge Parkway and Highway 421 in eastern Watauga County.

Investigators said she was driving a beige 1998 Toyota Camry with a N.C. tag bearing AAF-3455.
