3 dead, 1 injured after shooting in Stanly County home, deputies say

ALBEMARLE, N.C. — Deputies are investigating after three people were found dead and one man was injured after a shooting Thursday morning in Stanly County.

The four people lived in the home together.

According to officials, deputies responded to a home on Canton Road near Burleson Road in Albemarle around 6:30 a.m. after receiving a call from a woman saying someone was outside her home.

The three people found dead were Donnie Furr, 74, his wife, Elaine Furr, 76, and their 54-year-old daughter Paula Furr.

When deputies got there, they said they found Paula Furr's 24-year-old son who had been shot.

Investigators with more than 20 years of experience said the scene inside the home was the most horrific they’ve ever seen.

Eyewitness News reporter Gina Esposito learned the victim climbed out a back window in his home after the shooting and ran across the street to get help from a neighbor.

Officials said the neighbor did not answer the door because she did not know the man, but called 911 for help.

When investigators searched the victim's home, they said they found three people dead inside.

According to the Stanly County Sheriff's Office, the incident is being worked as a death investigation and they aren't looking for any suspects.

Deputies told Channel 9 they talked to other family members who can't believe something like this happened. Officials hope to bring closure to the families.

"We are definitely going to be speaking with the families in hopes that they can shed some light on this. This is not a common occurrence in our county," said Sheriff Jeff Crisco with the Stanly County Sheriff's Office.

Channel 9 was there as investigators walked around the scene searching for evidence. Officers could be seen roping off both homes with crime scene tape.

“There were no warning signs whatsoever,” Crisco said. “It’s astonishing to the families that have been spoken with, so far. They never saw this coming”

Investigators are hoping to give the family the answers they are searching for.

“We’re going to exhaust every means necessary to come to a conclusion of what took place and try our very best as to why it took place, and that’s going to be the question that family has,” Crisco said.

The man who was taken to Atrium's Health in Concord was shot in the arm and abdomen. We're told he is going into surgery but is stable.

Authorities are not looking for any suspects.
