Police identify man and woman found dead in Gaston County double homicide

GASTONIA, N.C. — Gastonia police are conducting a double homicide investigation after a man and woman were found dead inside a house Wednesday afternoon.

The two were discovered around 4:15 p.m. at a home on Mary Avenue.

Neighbors told Channel 9 that news of the deaths was shocking.

“It does concern me,” Chad Bridges said. “My grandma is 86 and I work during the day, and she's there by herself. And anything could happen.”

"It's a quiet neighborhood. They've actually cleaned it up a lot. It's a good neighborhood," Bridges said. "I was brought home from the hospital here in '79 and growed up here. Never had no problem."

Police identified the female victim as 68-year-old Brenda Henson and the man as 47-year-old Robert Bryan Metcalfe. They said Henson's daughter became concerned when she arrived at the home and found the door open.

Family members say her daughter found her stabbed to death  in the living room along with Metcalfe nearby.

In a 911 call, she said: "I came to pick my mom up for her doctors appointment and the front door wasn't locked. I went in and I think my mom and somebody else is dead in the living room."

Family members say Henson typically kept her doors locked and the home was also equipped with a security system. Friends like Starlane Wease drove slowly by Thursday in disbelief anyone would hurt her.

"It puts a scare on me and she's such a loving person.  I don't know who would do that to her.  Because we loved her.  It's sad," she said.

No arrests have been made.

Tips to help solve the case can be called in to the GPD front desk at (704) 866-6702 or to Crime Stoppers of Gaston County at (704) 861-8000. Crime Stoppers pays up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
