Dredging project at Freedom Park nearly complete

A dredging project at Freedom Park is nearly complete just in time for the popular Festival in the Park.

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation said Bandshell Island is the only park area still closed while crews repair the wall.

The rest of the fencing has been removed from the pond.

As for that bright blue water?

The county says it added aquatic dye to reduce underwater weeds and algae by limiting the sunlight that penetrates the water.
