Driver thrown from SUV in head-on crash near Lenoir

CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — A major road in Caldwell County has reopened after a head-on crash south of Lenoir.

Gary Starnes said he had little time to react after an SUV overturned and crossed the center line right in front of him along Connelly Springs Road.

The driver was thrown from her SUV, which ended up hitting Starnes' car and stopped on a hillside.

Highway patrol officers said charges are pending against the driver, who was rushed to the hospital.
