Early morning fire displaces five in northwest Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Five people escaped a house fire early Saturday morning in northwest Charlotte.

The Charlotte Fire Department says it took 23 fire fighters 10 minutes to control the fire on Cushman Street. No one was injured in the fire, officials said.

After investigating, the fire department said the fire was accidental, and that combustible materials that were too close to a propane burner were to blame. The department also credits working smoke alarms with preventing any injuries to the people inside the home.

Four adults and one child were displaced in the fire, but the American Red Cross was not called out to assist.

It is estimated that the fire did $50,000 in damages.
