CHARLOTTE — From Elvis Presley to Billy Graham, the sign outside of Bojangles Coliseum and Ovens Auditorium has advertised incredible events. But the Independence Boulevard landmark may soon be replaced.
If you drive on Highway 74 in east Charlotte, you’ve definitely seen the sign advertising the upcoming events at the coliseum and auditorium.
This is the original sign to the venue. It's advertised everyone from Elvis Presley to JoJo Siwa. CRVA says the plan is to repurpose the sign and put it somewhere else on the property. Public hearing tonight #CLTCC https://t.co/kjuAjAbajM

The sign is original to the venues and now, the city of Charlotte wants to upgrade it to an electric sign. The city would also add two smaller pole signs in front of the theater.
The Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority says the plan is to repurpose the sign and put it somewhere else on the property.
Councilman Larken Egleston, who represents the venue, says he wants it written into the petition that the sign will be moved and will be continued to be used.
Charlotte city council will likely vote next month.
