BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — Volunteer firefighters and paramedics across the Foothills honored one of their own Saturday who died while serving the people of Burke County.
Emergency personnel and volunteer firefighters escorted paramedic Joey Autrey's body back to Morganton.
Burke County EMS officials says the 38-year old suffered a heart attack while working as a paramedic earlier in April.
Autrey was also a firefighter with three different volunteer departments.
Several departments hoisted flags on overpasses along Interstate 40 to honor Autrey.
