CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. — Fairgoers in Cleveland County experienced some terrifying moments Sunday evening when a large funnel cloud formed over the county fair.
On Monday, Channel 9 was able to take a look at some of the damage on the ground across the county.

At a home on Shufford Lake Road, winds were so strong that they blew the roof off the house.
Another home’s carport is missing after being blown away.
Channel 9 reporter Ken Lemon spoke with a man who lived in one of the damaged homes. He is a volunteer firefighter and said the alarm went off while he and his wife were outside. They saw the funnel cloud headed straight towards their home.
A Channel 9 viewer sent Eyewitness News video of the purported funnel cloud that was above the area.
The volunteer firefighter told Lemon that he and his wife took refuge inside a closet and that the cloud blew over in a matter of seconds.

“It’s just like the whole house just trembled all over,” he said. “It was very brief. And then it was over. When I cracked the door open, I looked out and could see the trees were hardly even moving.”
Another man in the area told Channel 9 that he could see the cloud coming across a field right across the street from his home. He and his wife ran inside and down into the basement.
Channel 9 is asking emergency management officials what they found near the fair in Boiling Springs and if it's possible a tornado touched down.
