LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — South Carolina fire chiefs gathered Wednesday morning to remember firefighters killed in the line of duty.
The South Carolina State Association of Fire Chiefs gathered at the Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Columbia.
The memorial bears the names of 117 firefighters, who gave their lives while in service.
Six more firefighters will be added to the memorial this year, including Charlotte Road-Van Wyck Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Dennis Straight.
He was killed in November when he was hit by a car while directing traffic at a wreck on Highway 521 in Lancaster County.
