CHARLOTTE — Losing a child is a traumatic experience that comes with deep heartache and sorrow over a future that ended too soon.

“Everything, from the time we lost our son Nathaniel to all of the follow-up appointments, surgery -- I was by myself,” Emily McMahan said.
