Father accused of killing sons and shooting himself dies

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — Shawn Fuller, accused of fatally shooting his two young sons, has died, the Iredell County sheriff told Channel 9 on Thursday.

Authorities said Fuller shot his sons, Uriah and Josiah, on Aug. 9, then turned the gun on himself.

Officials said Fuller died Wednesday night at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte of complications from his injuries.

In the hours after the murder, sheriff deputies executed two search warrants in the case.

The court documents spell out a possible reason behind the shooting and how the boys' mother fought keep her husband from getting the gun.

Bianca Fuller told authorities that her husband, Shawn Fuller, was drunk and said he wanted a pistol before shooting the couple's 3- and  4-year-old sons, according to search warrants.

She told him the location of the gun only after he punched her in the face, put a sheet around her neck and began choking her, according to court documents.

Shawn Fuller's brother told authorities that he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder.  A neighbor said Fuller told him that he had been in the service.

"I feel like it was something that maybe could have been prevented,” Jason Dozier said. “Just by what I've known, being here with his past."

Witnesses described hearing as many as 15 shots fired at the Fuller home on the night the boys were killed.

The sheriff said that if Shawn Fuller had survived, he would have been charged with two counts of murder.

Deputies seized a Glock 19 semi-automatic pistol during their search, according to court documents.
