A former BB&T branch manager faces bank fraud and identity theft charges in federal court.
Tony McElveen Sr. pleaded guilty last Thursday to bank fraud and aggravated identity theft in connection to a two-month scheme that allegedly victimized two elderly BB&T customers.
A criminal information filing dated May 6 claims McElveen, hired as branch manager in the Robeson County town of Rowland in February of 2017, quickly used his position to steal the personal identification information of two customers, identified via the initials B.M. and J.S.
He then allegedly used their data to fraudulently obtain loans and credit cards — accumulating “at least” $107,390.37 in gross proceeds.
The feds allege he used those credit cards “for his personal benefit,” renting cars and Myrtle Beach hotel rooms and even installing a home security system.
