20 displaced after south Charlotte apartment fire

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte firefighters worked to put out flames at an apartment complex in south Charlotte Tuesday night.

Firefighters responded to the call at the Oak Park Apartments in the 8600 block of Nations Ford Road just after 10 p.m.

No one was taken to the hospital but 20 people were displaced, officials said.

Investigators said the flames damaged several apartments and told Channel 9 that food left unattended on a stove was to blame.

The Red Cross was helping four families with temporary shelter and it's not clear when they'll be able to return home.

Crews said the fire caused about $65,000 in damage.
